TELEHEALTH IN NAPLES, FLORIDA

Fun fact: while the life expectancy in the US has decreased, the life expectancy in Collier County, Florida has increased!

Obesity is a leading cause of the decreasing life expectancy in the U.S. Collier County is focused on fostering a healthy lifestyle with plenty of emphasis on healthy eating and many options for fun outdoor activities.

While Naples is a beautiful part of the world to reside, Florida is home to many insects, including mosquitos, spiders and scorpions. Fortunately insect bites are common complaints which are easily handled via telehealth!

The Saharan dust blowing over Florida in the summer months has caused a lot of new or recurrent allergies and sinusitis in individuals. Fortunately allergies, upper respiratory tract infections, and sinusitis are common complaints which are also easily handled via telehealth!

Regarding Health and Wellness

Many things nowadays, especially with the assistance of smart technology can be addressed safely, effectively, and conveniently via telehealth or virtual care. For example, many individuals now have automatic blood pressure cuffs, smart watches which monitor the heart rate and even the rhythm, pulse oximetry, blood sugars monitors, and more in their home. These self assessment resources aid the individual, and also help to facilitate the remote health care experience you have with your online doctor or provider.

However, when health really isn’t going as planned, and individuals need hands-on acute or specialty care which cannot be provided via telemedicine, I like to recommend reputable and reliable resources in the community.

Women’s Healthcare

Naples, has the highly ranked Women’s Healthcare Physicians of Naples for that. They offer general obstetric and gynecology services for anything from endometriosis treatment to management of pelvic organ prolapse, including minimally invasive surgeries.

Some Activities I Personally Suggest:

  • A walk through Naples Botanical Garden, a 170 acre tropical paradise
  • Kayaking among the manatees and mangrove tunnels
  • A relaxing afternoon picnic at Cambier Park
  • A walking tour of Everglades National Park
  • Paddle boarding on the coast
  • An electric moped tour of the city
  • A traditional Greek cooking class
  • Beach games!
  • Fogg Cafe, for a quick and healthy bite

In need of specialty, acute or emergency care? No problem.

Southwest Florida is home to NCH Baker Hospital and Lee Memorial Hospital, which are jointly ranked number 14 among “best hospitals” in Florida. The hospitals were noted to be high performing in cardiac care, including bypass surgery and heart failure treatment.

NCH Healthcare System offers various types of medical care in many locations throughout Collier County and Southwest Florida. Their services include specialty care such as, Allergy and Immunology, Diabetes and Nutrition, Cardiac Rehab, Orthopedics, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Pulmonology, Birthing, Pediatrics, Geriatrics, Bariatrics, General Surgery, Sleep Medicine, Wound Healing, and Imaging Centers.

An interesting fact, NCH brought the Blue Zone Project to Southwest Florida in 2015. What is the Blue Zone Project? In short, it is a mission to decrease chronic disease and its burden on individuals and the community, in turn helping residents to live longer, healthier and happier lives!

The top five hospitals in Florida are noted to be Mayo Clinic Jacksonville, University of Florida Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, Cleveland Clinic in Weston, and Advent Health in Orlando.

For reference, the top five hospitals in the nation are Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota; Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston; Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore; Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland; and New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia and Cornell, New York.

This data analysis is from Medicare and the American Hospital Association.
