Sea Sickness while Exploring?

Even if you don’t live in Jupiter, but you’re in town and in need of some care, Dr. Poston can help you too!

Telehealth can be a game changer if you’re just visiting and are looking forward to spending some time boating and fishing, but you struggle with sea sickness.

Did you know that you can adjust to sea sickness after 2-3 days of continuous motion, but upon returning to land the symptoms can reoccur?

There are some steps you can take to try to prevent the symptoms, such as:

    • Pick a distant stationary object to focus on, such as the lighthouse!
    • Plan ahead so reading from a screen or looking over instructions or a map isn’t necessary as focusing on reading confuses our brain and makes symptoms worse.
    • Choose forward facing seats in the middle of the boat and on the lower deck if possible to minimize motion.

If these simple tricks aren’t enough, fortunately there are medications which can help to lessen the dizziness, belching, nausea, increased salivation and sweating.
