TELEHEALTH IN JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA

Fun fact: The cost of living in Jacksonville is 10% below the national average, and more than half its residents own their homes, alright for affordability and work-life balance!

Jacksonville is in Duval County which is located on the Atlantic coast of Florida. Growth in the metropolitan area is booming, and rightfully so! With its population just shy of 1 million, the city offers plenty of amenities to help individuals stay healthy and active! Jacksonville actually has the most shoreline of any city in the U.S., and don’t forget the more than 80,00 acres of green space and urban parks!

When I mention urban parks, it is more than just a mention… Jacksonville houses the largest urban park system in the U.S with 7 state parks and 2 national parks! What a wonderful way to get outside and to enjoy the great outdoors in the sunshine state!

The Cons:

Florida is home to many insects, including mosquitos, spiders and scorpions. Fortunately insect bites are common complaints which are easily handled via telehealth!

The Saharan dust blowing over Florida in the summer months has caused a lot of new or recurrent allergies and sinusitis in individuals. Fortunately allergies, upper respiratory tract infections, and sinusitis are common complaints which are also easily handled via telehealth!

Regarding Health and Wellness

Many things nowadays, especially with the assistance of smart technology can be addressed safely, effectively, and conveniently via telehealth or virtual care. For example, many individuals now have automatic blood pressure cuffs, smart watches which monitor the heart rate and even the rhythm, pulse oximetry, blood sugars monitors, and more in their home. These self assessment resources aid the individual, and also help to facilitate the remote health care experience you have with your online doctor or provider.

However, when health really isn’t going as planned, and individuals need hands-on acute or specialty care which cannot be provided via telemedicine, I like to recommend reputable and reliable resources in the community.

Some Activities I Personally Suggest:

  • An electric bike tour of Ameila Island
  • Kayaking along Lofton Creek
  • An afternoon picnic or hike at Little or Big Talbot Island State Park
  • A paddle at Jacksonville, Neptune, Atlantic or Ponte Vedra beaches
  • Enjoying various works at The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens
  • A visit to Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens
  • A walk through Fort Caroline National Memorial
  • A stroll around the Museum of Science and History
  • Walking about The Riverside Arts Market

In need of specialty, acute or emergency care? Jacksonville has you covered!
